Girlie weekend in Snowdonia

Massive Thank You...

20 November 2019

Back in late 2019, these wonderful, glamorous ladies from in and around Rochdale decided they would all get together and set off to deepest, darkest Wales for a girlie weekend in Snowdonia.

The trip was organised by the lovely Danielle Parkinson and her close friend Angie Neild who decided that they would use the weekend to bravely climb Snowden in aid of a charity…. and we were totally honoured when they chose The Maggie Oliver Foundation as their nominated charity!!

They had heard of our plans to open a pilot centre in Rochdale, watched Three Girls, knew of the National grooming gang scandal and the connections to these horrific crimes in Rochdale and so they all decided to support us and help us in our efforts……

So their weekend away finally arrived, and the 15 brave explorers set off on their adventures, only to be faced with the most horrific weather. Torrential rain, brutal blizzards and biting winds accompanied them as they fought their way up Snowden… but miraculously they dug deep and they did it!!! And in the process, they succeeded in raising a massive £2250 for The Maggie Oliver Foundation.

The after-party I’m told involved lots of Prosecco, blazing fires, food and giggles and when I met for them a couple of weeks later at Hollingsworth Lake so they could hand over their hard-earned donation, there was more fun and frolicking all round!! In fact I needed to have muscles like Superman to carry the big cheque we had made for this special occasion, as it’s the size of a front door and weighs just as much lol!!

Thank you so so much girls!!

Your efforts are so appreciated and the funds you raised are so important and desperately needed to the Centre which is helping survivors of childhood sexual abuse move forward with their lives.

The amazing efforts of this great group of women have meant so much to us, and what they achieved is so appreciated. I wanted to use this very first Blog on our new website to say a big personal THANKYOU to them for choosing the Foundation as their chosen charity. I’m absolutely blown away by their efforts and that they chose us!! And I promise that every single penny raised is going towards helping survivors of childhood sexual abuse, as is the case with all donations made to our charity.

I think it’s important to say here that although we are just a small charity at the moment, the reason we are at this point is entirely due to the wonderful people who have dedicated their lives over the past year without being paid a single penny. Unlike many of the big national charities, there is no one earning big salaries, no enormous bonuses, nobody draining resources. We have got to this place entirely because of the unrelenting commitment of ordinary people like us, who believe we need to change things for the better. It has been a pure labour of love!

Please remember our charity if you are thinking of doing a fundraising event this year. Please help us as we work towards creating a new way of tackling childhood sexual abuse and giving survivors a voice, as we fight for the changes to the criminal justice system which are so desperately needed.
