Rhona

I live in Scotland and a single  mum to 19 year old twin girls.

I moved back to Scotland,  after living in London for some years,  when they were 18 months old after becoming a lone parent.

Working for Border Force , in its many forms, for 29 years , I am a lead within a network of specially trained safeguarding and Modern Slavery teams based in the UK.

I am passionate about my role in safeguarding  and promoting the welfare of children entering the UK,  as well as  vulnerable adults , whether potential victims of human trafficking and modern slavery , harmful practises such as FGM, Forced marriage and Honour Based Abuse, Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation.

I work closely with partners and stakeholders,  Police ,NCA, Social services , Non Government Organisations, Unseen, Tara , 28toomany, Justice and Care,    to identify and safeguard vulnerable people,  raising awareness and engaging with industry , stakeholders and wider general public,  a key strength in identifying and safeguarding vulnerable people.

In my spare time I love walking the hills ,  a new passion of mine.   I managed to climb my first munro ( mountain over 3000ft )  in November,  Ben Lomond.    Unfortunately due to lockdown restrictions haven’t been able to travel far enough to do any more ,  but keeping walking in the countryside to maintain my fitness till I can travel further afield.

My other passion is rescue greyhounds.   I adopted our first rescue greyhound in 2014.   Sadly we had to put him to sleep a year ago.    Since then I have fostered  Greyhound /lurchers  from the Scottish Greyhound Sanctuary in the last year .  They are a beautiful gentle breed and they too suffer exploitation in the racing industry and prefer to have the gentle life of snoozing on a sofa, and just want love and return it in abundance.

When I saw Maggie Oliver talking about her  foundation I felt I could be part of this and perhaps contribute a little bit to be part of a this great growing organisation helping to support adult survivors of sexual abuse Transforming Pain into Power.
