With "grooming gangs" in the headlines again, you may have seen our Founder and Chair, Maggie, in the media over the past few days. We are currently working on a round-up of her appearances for you to catch up on.
In her interviews she has referred to the Independent Inquiry in Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA), led by Professor Alexis Jay and the fact that the part of this inquiry which focussed on "grooming gangs" did not go into the level of detail which it should to do justice to the issue.
Maggie was a non-institutional core participant, which meant she gave evidence independently based on what she had witnessed as a police officer. Her full 50 page statement can be read here. Only 18 pages were admitted as evidence by the inquiry, this reduced version can be read here.
This part of the inquiry only heard evidence from one survivor.
IICSA published its findings over two years ago, making 20 recommendations to the Government, none of which have yet been implemented by either the Conservative or Labour Governments. Inquiries like this are only effective if they are truly independent and uncensored, listening to the voices and experiences of victims and survivors, if recommendations are acted upon and if there is true accountability for those professionals who have failed so many.
