We are aware that following the publication of the Baird Inquiry findings on 18th July 2024, many people will be seeking support for similar harrowing experiences in police custody. We are sorry if this applies to you.
The Maggie Oliver Foundation’s mission is to support and advocate for survivors of sexual violence. Our involvement in the Baird Inquiry was as a result of learning of the inhumane treatment in custody of survivors we were already supporting.
We are unable to support anyone who is not a survivor of sexual abuse.
If you have concerns about your treatment in custody, you can make a complaint to the police force here:
Please note that despite you submitting the complaint through the Independent Office for Police Conduct, your complaint will be forwarded to the force you are complaining about for them to consider. We know that this system is severely flawed but it is currently the only option available. We are calling for significant reform of the police complaints system that leads to true accountability.
