Legal Options

At The Maggie Oliver a Foundation we are committed to ensuring survivors are aware of all the legal options pertaining to the abuse you’ve experienced and that any action you take should be based on YOUR choice.

We feel very strongly that you should be given all your options and make an informed decision when deciding what it is you would like to do.

Reporting to the police

We can support you to report to the police if this is something you wish to do.

We can arrange to support you in interviews and in subsequent appointments.

We know that the criminal justice process can be opaque and daunting for victims and survivors. Especially those of traumatic interpersonal crimes, such as sexual abuse. It takes great courage to report such a crime. Sadly, we know from experience that the criminal justice system is often not fit for purpose in helping victims and survivors to obtain the justice they deserve. We can advocate for you in liaising with the police to ensure that your rights under the Victim’s Code are upheld.

Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) Claims

We can assist with information around the process of applying for CICA. If this is a route you wish to pursue, we can introduce you to law firms, that are independent of The Maggie Oliver Foundation, which can assist with the process. Please note, The Maggie Oliver Foundation is unable to offer any legal advice or assistance in completing a CICA application.

Sexual Assault Referral Centres

We can support you to attend a SARC if you wish, where you can explore options open to you.

Compensation (Civil Claims)

Survivors may wish to pursue a legal claim for compensation in respect of the abuse they have suffered and we can provide information about legal options that may be available for survivors of sexual abuse. It is important to understand that if the abuse happened many years ago, survivors may still be successful in obtaining justice and compensation.

We are here to support you
