A Life surrounded by dark clouds…

The Maggie Oliver Foundation has provided us with hope and steadfast support, helping us see the light again.

My daughter was blessed with an extraordinary mind and a quick wit. Her clever humour would often have those around her in fits of laughter, and she had a unique gift for lifting the spirits of everyone in her company. There was a certain brightness she brought to every space she entered, effortlessly filling the room with happiness and warmth.

She was not only intelligent and funny, but also embraced an active and sporty lifestyle, proudly celebrating her tomboy nature. Her selflessness was apparent in the way she consistently put others before herself, always demonstrating kindness, care, and genuine concern for those around her.

With her remarkable qualities, it was clear she had a future brimming with promise and opportunity. Yet, quite suddenly, darkness descended upon us, changing everything.

When my daughter reached the age of twelve, her behaviour underwent a dramatic and unsettling transformation. In what felt like an instant, she changed from the delightful, loving person she was. As her mother, I instinctively knew that something was deeply wrong. I endured a relentless struggle for more than 21 years, seeking help and support for her. It felt as though I was forever trapped beneath a sky filled with dark clouds.

Then the unimaginable happened. she bravely disclosed that she had been a victim of child sexual exploitation. This revelation shook us to our core, turning our entire world upside down and casting a shadow over everything we had known. She showed courage bravery and continued to fight to get the support she needed. In the end her battle was to painful and exhausting. She sadly  took her own life, leaving her only child behind.

Our daily lives became shrouded in a persistent gloom, as if we were eternally enveloped by a blanket of dark clouds. The pain we endured was relentless, altering the way we experienced the world and leaving us in a state of constant mourning.

It was during this time, when hope seemed so distant, that The Maggie Oliver Foundation extended their unwavering support to us, reaching out with kindness and compassion.

The Maggie Oliver Foundation and Maggie Oliver herself has brought a renewed sense of brightness to our lives. Where once we felt surrounded by overwhelming darkness, the heavy clouds that loomed over us are gradually beginning to lift. In those moments when there seemed to be nowhere to turn, both myself and my grandchild have now discovered hope—a hope we never believed would be possible for us. With each passing day, we find ourselves growing stronger together. The courage and love we have been given by TMOF has enabled us to walk side by side, taking pride in the bravery of a daughter and mother who fought valiantly until the very end.

As we look to the future, we recognise that it is our turn to demonstrate the resilience and bravery that Maggie Oliver and her dedicated team have instilled in us. Their unwavering support has empowered us to move forward and offer guidance and encouragement to others facing similar challenges.

My daughter possessed the heart and courage of a lion. She was not only a devoted daughter but also a loving mother, with a promising future stretching out before her. Her spirit and determination will remain alive in our memories; she was a true warrior who aspired to help those around her.

Throughout this ongoing journey, the unwavering support from Maggie Oliver, her dedicated team, and the solicitors has been invaluable. Their compassion and encouragement have empowered me to find the strength within myself, echoing the courage my daughter exemplified. Together, we are forging a path towards justice, and their assistance plays a crucial role in amplifying our voices.

As the new Statutory National Inquiry approaches, I am committed to being my daughter’s voice. By sharing her story and standing up for those who have endured similar experiences, I aim to contribute meaningfully to the conversation and ensure that those who still need to be heard are not overlooked. This effort is a testament to her legacy and a promise to continue advocating for change.
